Job Summary:
The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for conducting comprehensive geotechnical investigations, analysis, and providing expert recommendations for civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and practices, and will be adept at managing and coordinating geotechnical aspects of construction projects. The Geotechnical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site visits and assessments, to gather data on soil, rock, and groundwater conditions.
2. Perform geotechnical analyses, interpret test results, and generate accurate engineering reports.
3. Develop geotechnical design parameters and recommend suitable foundation systems, retaining structures, and slope stability measures.
4. Collaborate with project stakeholders to evaluate geotechnical risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
5. Provide technical guidance and support to design teams for geotechnical aspects of projects, including foundation design, grading plans, and site development.
6. Review and approve geotechnical engineering designs, calculations, and specifications.
7. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards related to geotechnical engineering.
8. Coordinate and liaise with contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies to ensure geotechnical project requirements are met.
9. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications and proper implementation of recommended measures.
10. Conduct geotechnical project evaluations and participate in post-construction assessments and forensic investigations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
2. Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in geotechnical engineering.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in civil infrastructure projects.
4. Strong knowledge of geotechnical investigation techniques, laboratory testing, and field data collection.
5. Proficient in geotechnical analysis software, such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or equivalent.
6. Extensive understanding of geotechnical design principles, including foundation design, slope stability, and retaining structures.
7. Familiarity with relevant geotechnical codes, regulations, and industry standards.
8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex geotechnical data and propose effective solutions.
9. Strong project management abilities, with experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
